Confidence is key when in the dating world. Usually at a bar or an event, you have your trusty friends to boost your confidence to help you go spark up a conversation with someone new. With most dating apps you’re left to do it all on your own. None of your friends or family are there with you to help break the ice.
Tone and mood
After finding a new match, keeping the conversion going is crucial to developing any type of relationship. Sometimes tone can get lost in translation, or maybe the joke just didn’t land. Then we’re left scrambling to find out where it went wrong. It’s a common occurrance that we find ourselves not really sure how someone meant to say what they said. This particular problem is the reason why 25% of conversations on dating apps just dwindle out.
Millions of people rely on dating apps to create new connections and with the recent pandemic, the number of users on dating apps have grown exponentially. The 2021 global dating market has increased to $4.3 billion in revenue. In the US alone, it’s risen to a $3 billion industry with much room to grow.
With the growth of Tinder, Bumble and others, the dating space won’t be going anywhere but up for the next decade. This is why there is so much room for other emerging dating apps to partake in the market share and offer users a unique and exciting experience, one that includes all aspects of dating. ;)

As part of the competitive analysis, we dissect the competition's product analyzing their UI/UX, tech stack, and more. This allows us to capitalize on what the competition has done really well and where they can improve. In many cases, leading competitors have invested millions into R&D which is to our advantage if we can understand it. Here are some of findings while analyzing Bumble and Hinge. Two dating giants in the game.
Insight 1: Hinge displays user’s metadata in a clean and organized way so viewers can skim through the information.
Insight 2: Hinge asks profile enhancement questions which help spark meaningful conversation. It’s a great way to get to know someone on the surface before even matching. This increases user engagement as it gives users something to talk about.
Insight 3: Matching you with your preferred type is key to maintaining user engagement, retention and most importantly a good user experience. If people can’t find their “type” then they won't come back to use the app. Here, Bumble understands the need to filter for a specific type of person.
